Former Dayton QB Ernst collapses, dies at 26

A funeral is scheduled tomorrow for Anthony "Tony" Ernst, who quarterbacked the University of Dayton to Pioneer League football championships in 1993 and 1994.

Ernst died after collapsing in a Dayton, Ohio, restaurant. He was 26.

Golf: Tom Lehman will join Mark O'Meara and Payne Stewart on the U.S. team for next month's Dunhill Cup.

Boxing: Friday's scheduled WBA junior middleweight title bout between champion Sharmba Mitchell and Elio Ortiz was postponed because of a strained rib muscle suffered by Mitchell.

High schools: John Carroll's girls soccer team tied for the No. 10 ranking in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas Girls High School National Rankings, the first national rankings of the season. The Patriots (5-0) are No. 1 in The Sun's Top 15 poll. Severna Park (5-0), ranked No. 2 by The Sun, is No. 25 nationally.
