A 38-year-old woman was found shot to death yesterday in a wooded area near her Glen Burnie home, Anne Arundel County police said.

Mary Agnes Pennington of the 900 block of Point Pleasant Road was curled in a fetal position wearing a red sweat shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

A handgun was recovered near her body, police said.

According to police, a man discovered the body while walking with his two children.

He went to the house of Annette Smith, 23, also in the 900 block of Point Pleasant Road shortly after 4 p.m. and asked her to call police.

"She was half on our property and [looked as if] she crawled in the woods and was hiding," Smith said.

Smith said she had not heard gunshots but neighbors told police they heard loud banging about 3 a.m. yesterday.

"It scares me to know that someone dumped a body by my home," Smith said.
