Sports store robbed of $37,000 in merchandise

BROOKLANDVILLE -- Burglars took merchandise valued at $37,000 from Princeton Sports & Travel during or after Thursday's storm, county police said yesterday.

Between the store's early closing Thursday at 2: 30 p.m. because of the weather and its 7: 30 a.m. reopening yesterday , burglars pried the grate off a side door of the business in the 6200 block of Falls Road, said Baltimore County police spokesman Cpl. Vickie Warehime.

More than 100 ski jackets, other ski clothing and accessories, and $300 in cash were stolen, Warehime said. Watches, goggles, sunglasses and gloves were among the items taken.

Man killed after walking into path of truck

OWINGS MILLS

OWINGS MILLS -- A 53-year-old man was killed less than a mile from his home when he walked into the path of a truck on Reisterstown Road yesterday morning, Baltimore County police said.

Alan Howard Polan of the first block of Bentley Way in Owings Mills walked into the northbound lanes of Reisterstown Road at Rosewood Lane against a green light about 8: 40 a.m., police said. Polan was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by a 1997 Mitsubishi six-wheel truck driven by James Shank of Hagerstown, said police spokeswoman Cpl. Vickie Warehime.

Polan was pronounced dead at the scene, Warehime said. The truck driver was not charged.
