Angels update

A turbulent season is drawing to a close, and not a moment too soon. Dissension has run deep in the Angels' clubhouse, leading to manager Terry Collins' resignation. Key components of the team were unavailable at the start of the season because of injuries, and the Angels never recovered. They had won five straight and nine of 10 before yesterday's loss to Kansas City, but still are buried in last place in the AL West, 25 games below .500. A 29-40 home record hasn't helped. The Orioles took two of three from the Angels in Anaheim on May 25-27. Erickson lost the first game, allowing four runs in 7 1/3 innings, but Ponson was a 3-2 winner the next night by limiting the Angels to two runs over eight innings. Overall, the Orioles have taken six of nine games against Anaheim this year, including the past five. They swept a three-game series at Camden Yards in July, capped by Albert Belle's three-homer afternoon. The Angels took two of three in May, the only Orioles victory provided by Mussina, who gave up three runs in eight innings in a 5-3 win.
