Man who reported robbery is arrested after police are told crime was hoax

Westminster police arrested yesterday an employee of the Long John Silver Seafood Restaurant who allegedly reported an armed robbery there Sunday.

"We received a call from two employees Sunday morning that they had just been robbed at gunpoint by two persons wearing masks," said Lt. Wayne Mann of the city force. Four money bags containing about $3,700 were missing.

The arrest was made after one of the supposed victims admitted during further questioning that the crime was fabricated, Mann said. About $730 was recovered from a suspect's home.
