County Sheriff's Office seeks to hire support services director

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office has begun a search to fill the new position of director of support services.

The director will handle daily operations involving personnel and budgets, training, development, risk management and bookkeeping.

Applicants with a bachelor's degree and four years of experience in personnel-related employment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, should submit a county job application to Sheriff Kenneth L. Tregoning, 100 N. Court St., Westminster 21157.

Westminster church to hold forum on children, violence

Westminster Church of the Brethren will sponsor a community forum on "Children, Youth and Violence" at 7 p.m. Monday.

The forum will feature a panel of experts in counseling, conflict resolution, the legal system, social work and other related fields.

Panelists will present five minutes of information from their field, then take questions.

Peace Place Bookstore from New Windsor Brethren Service Center will display and sell resource lists, books and nonviolent toys.

The Church of the Brethren is one of several denominations considered among the "historic peace churches" and has issued statements against violence and war and a position paper on how violence affects children.

Westminster: Firefighters responded at 8: 10 p.m. Wednesday to wires on fire in the first block of W. Green St. Units were out 58 minutes.
