Pirates: Recalled P Jeff Wallace from Triple-A Nashville. Acquired P Jason Boyd from Diamondbacks to complete earlier trade.

Red Sox: Optioned P Tomokazu Ohka to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Royals: Placed P Dan Reichert (non-displaced crack in right elbow) on 15-day DL; he'll miss rest of season. Recalled P Tim Byrdak from Triple-A Omaha.

Twins: Sent P Gary Rath outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.


Bulls: Signed free-agent G Cory Carr, second-round draft pick Lari Ketner and free-agent C-F Brett Robisch.


American: Named Rachel Minar assistant women's basketball coach.

Georgia: Women's basketball F Elena Vishniakova transferred to George Washington.

Illinois State: C Ronald vanVelzen will not return to basketball team this season.

Texas A&M: Men's basketball C Joe White will transfer to Temple.

Texas-Pan American: Will not renew contracts of men's assistant basketball coaches George Morgan and Patrick Harrington for 1999-2000.

Virginia: G Kate Mooney will not play for basketball team this season.


Bears: Signed K Brian Gowins to one-year contract.

Broncos: Waived former Ravens OL Leo Goeas.

Panthers: Released WR Todd Kinchen.
