Playwrights Festival's final weekend

This is the final weekend of the 1999 Baltimore Playwrights Festival, and you can still catch all three of the remaining entries, if you schedule them right. Furthermore, two of the shows are among the picks of this year's crop.

"Keeping the Faith," at the Spotlighters, is Carol Weinberg's insightful account of the challenging relationship between an at-risk biracial teen-ager (Ran Frazier) and his Jewish Big Brother (Rodney Bonds). A bar in a small Virginia town provides the setting for Jim Sizemore's "Joe Pete" -- a Fell's Point Corner Theatre production about men, guns and women. And finally, though far less effective than the other two, Rosemary Frisino Toohey's "Gladys in Wonderland," at the Vagabonds, attempts to put a comic spin on the death of an octogenarian.

Show time at the Spotlighters, 817 St. Paul St., is 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; tickets are $10. Call 410-752-1225. Show times at Fell's Point Corner, 251 S. Ann St., are 8 p.m. tonight through Saturday, and 7 p.m. Sunday; tickets are $10 and $11. Call 410-276-7837. Show times at the Vagabonds, 806 S. Broadway, are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 7 p.m. Sunday; tickets are $10. Call 410-563-9135.
