The blotter is a sampling of crimes in Howard County compiled from police reports.


Whistling Winds Walk: 5700 block. Someone entered a house under construction and stole light fixtures.

Brighton Dam Road: 13500 block. Someone entered a home through a ground-floor window between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Aug. 17 and ransacked the home. It was unclear whether anything was taken.

East Columbia

Guilford Road: 9700 block. Someone stole a mountain bike from an open garage between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 5 p.m. Thursday.

Lambskin Lane: 8900 block, Long Reach. A robber entered Locust Park Pool between 9 p.m. Aug. 16 and 9 a.m. Aug. 17 by prying the deadbolt and stole $25 from the snack area.

Woodpark Lane: 7600 block, King's Contrivance. A woman was approached outside her apartment at 1 a.m. Sunday by a man who implied he had a knife and demanded her purse. The woman handed him about $70.

West Columbia

Harpers Farm Road/Eliots Oak Road: Harper's Choice. A 78-year-old man walking on a bike path near a senior center at 10 a.m. Wednesday was accosted by a man who tried to steal a bag of books from the man. The robber got away with cash.

Cross Fox Lane: 10400 block, Wilde Lake. A group of men approached several people playing basketball behind Wilde Lake Middle School at 7: 30 p.m. Wednesday, took car keys and attempted to start a basketball player's car. When an alarm was activated, the men fled.

Jason Lane: 10500 block, Wilde Lake. Someone entered a home between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. Aug. 17 by breaking open a door and stole a television, videocassette recorder and jewelry.

Harpers Farm Road: 5400 block, Harper's Choice. Two men approached two patrons of Papa John's pizza shop at their car in the village center, implied they had a gun and demanded money. The robbers stole an undetermined amount of money.

Cordage Walk: 10700 block, Hickory Ridge. Using a key left under a rock in the front yard for carpet installers, someone entered a vacant house between 9 a.m Aug. 16 and 7 p.m. Thursday and damaged walls.

Harper's Farm Road: 5200 block, Harper's Choice. Someone stole boards from a garbage bin on a private driveway. A 40-year-old man was charged with fourth-degree burglary.

Ellicott City/Elkridge

Frederick Road: 9000 block, Ellicott City. A man entered a 7-Eleven store at 2: 30 a.m. Friday, implied he had a gun hidden under his shirt and demanded money. He took an undetermined amount of cash from a register and fled.

Brightlink Court: 8100 block, Ellicott City. A neighbor saw a man breaking into a home at 11 a.m. Thursday and called police. A K-9 unit confronted the man, but he escaped in a blue Dodge Caravan.

The Oaks Road: 3100 block, Ellicott City. A thief entered a home between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday through an unlocked door and stole televisions, videocassette recorders and a laptop computer.

Orchard Avenue: 2600 block, Ellicott City. Someone entered a storage shed between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 8 p.m. Thursday and stole two Suzuki dirt bikes, fishing rods, tools and hunting knives.

Baltimore National Pike: 9300 block, Ellicott City. An thief entered the Sunoco gas station at 3 a.m. Friday by smashing a glass window and stole cash.

Augustine Avenue.: 6000 block, Elkridge. Someone entered an open garage between 4: 30 p.m. and 7: 30 p.m. Saturday and stole a mountain bicycle.

Old Annapolis Road: 9100 block, Ellicott City. Someone broke a window to get into a Wendy's restaurant about 9 p.m. Friday and attempted to open cash registers. Nothing was taken.

Washington Boulevard.: 7500 block, Elkridge. Someone entered a fenced-in area of Hub Cap City overnight Friday and stole four wheels and hubcaps.


Mission Road: 8200 block, Jessup. A thief entered a residence between 8 a.m. Aug. 17 and 12: 30 p.m. Wednesday and stole a computer.

North Laurel/Savage

Storch Woods Drive: 8800 block, Savage. Someone climbed a balcony, smashed a sliding glass door and entered an apartment between midnight and 8: 30 a.m. Wednesday. The intruder rummaged through boxes but nothing was taken.

Frances Street: 20 block, North Laurel. A thief entered a mobile home between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Aug. 17 by prying the door and stole cash.

Baltimore Street: 9000 block, Savage. A robber entered the WaWa store at 4: 30 a.m. Sunday, displayed a revolver and demanded money. An unknown amount was taken.

Western Howard

Frederick Road: 15000 block, Lisbon. A man seen approaching a home between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday fled when a dog began to bark. He dropped a crowbar.

Foxpaw Trail: 15000 block, Woodbine. Someone entered a locked garage about 6 a.m. Friday and stole a motorcycle.
