Versuk, FitzHugh tie for low in pro-am

GRASONVILLE -- Mike Versuk, from Chester River Yacht & Country Club, dipped 6-under par through a nine-hole stretch in the middle of his round, then settled for a 3-under score of 34-3569 to tie Woody FitzHugh, from Herndon, Va., for low pro in a Middle Atlantic PGA pro-am at Prospect Bay CC yesterday.

Versuk, second here two years ago, eagled the par-5 first hole (driver, 2-iron to eight feet), and added four birdies, before slipping back with bogeys at the sixth and seventh holes on the 6,249-yard course. FitzHugh had five birdies and two bogeys.

Bob Rementer, Caroline CC, was 4-under par for 16 holes, then made double bogey at 17 to finish third.

Among the amateurs in the 39-team field, Phil Fairbanks of Hobbit's Glen GC had the low gross, 72, and Woody Hooper, Piney Branch, had the low net, 76-1264.
