Yellow Pages group begins literacy campaign

Promoting Literacy

August 22, 1999

The Yellow Pages Advertising Council has joined the literacy effort, embarking on a national campaign to recruit volunteers for local programs and placing public service ads in the telephone books published by its members.

The ads, to be placed in random spots in Yellow Pages books, will point out the problems of people unable to read and urge those interested in helping to call Literacy Volunteers of America at 1-877-HELP-LVA for information.

Maryland callers will be referred to the Baltimore Reads hot line number, 410-576-READ, for information about volunteering.

The Yellow Pages literacy campaign is tied to the Colorado-based trade group's new slogan, "Get an Idea."
