An 84-year-old woman on her way to church Tuesday morning died in a car crash in Harwood, Anne Arundel County police said.

Arlene E. Huntley of the 4900 block of Chestnut St. in Shady Side drove into the path of a pickup truck as she tried to cross Solomons Island Road from South River Clubhouse Road, police said. They believe she was headed for All Hallows Episcopal Parish Church.

Police said that shortly after 7 a.m., her 1991 Chevrolet Corsica collided with a northbound Chevrolet pickup driven by Marc E. Robertson, 34.

Robertson's car struck the driver's-side door on Huntley's vehicle. Police said that Huntley's car collapsed around her. She was trapped in the vehicle for 20 minutes, and was declared dead at the scene when paramedics reached her.

Her body was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

Robertson was flown by helicopter to the Trauma Center at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, where he was operated on for a broken leg.

County police investigators said that Robertson's vehicle had the right of way at the intersection and that alcohol was not a factor in the collision.

No charges have been filed.
