Virginia Wine Festival

Taste more than 300 wines from nearly 50 wineries and sample food created by area chefs this weekend at the 24th annual Virginia Wine Festival in Great Meadow. The festival also offers wine seminars, arts and crafts, live music and cigars.

Great Meadow is between The Plains and Warrenton on Route 245, off I-66. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $18 ages 21 and older, $5 under 21, children 2 and under free. Call 800-520-9670 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Party on the Bay

View hands-on demonstrations on "Life on the Chesapeake"; enjoy live entertainment, games and crafts; sample Eastern Shore food; and cheer on participants in the crab-picking contest Saturday at the Party on the Bay in Rock Hall.

The 11th annual event also features educational activities, Susquehanna Indian tales and a children's area.

Festivities take place along the bulkhead on Bayside Avenue. Free water shuttle for those arriving by boat. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission and parking free. Call 410-778-5327.
