Tree planted as memorial at Elderburg branch library

August 18, 1999

Lake View Memorial Park recently planted a braided fig tree in the children's wing of the Eldersburg branch library in memory of Peggy Holniker.

Holniker was instrumental in getting the Eldersburg library built and a meeting room is named for her. She died in 1993.

A plaque on the tree reads in part: "honoring her commitment to children and their education through library use. A grateful community says `Thanks.' "

FOR THE RECORD - A photo caption in the Carroll County edition of The Sun on Wednesday should have identified Charles Kelly as director of Lake View Memorial Park. The Sun regrets the error.

"Much of what you see around you here is the result of Peggy's efforts," said Linda Mielke, director of the Carroll County Public Library.

Her husband, Kenneth Holniker, also spoke at the ceremony.

Sykesville: Firefighters responded at 8: 04 a.m. Monday to a carbon monoxide alarm in the 2100 block of Carroll Dale Drive. Units were out 31 minutes.
