The body of a Belair-Edison man apparently shot to death in his car was discovered yesterday at an automotive shop near Pikesville.

The dead man was identified by police as Vernon Cornell Ferguson, 30, of the 3500 block of Shannon Drive.

The man, who was in the driver's seat with the window rolled down, had been shot in the head, police said.

No gun was found in the car, and police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Baltimore County police spokesman Cpl. Vickie Warehime said police were called to the scene yesterday morning about 7: 30 by George Miller, who owns Sudbrook Automotive.

Miller said he saw the 1997 Buick Skylark as soon as he drove into his parking lot near the 4400 block of Milford Mill Road. He said the left front tire was a "doughnut" spare and that he assumed the car had been left there. When he saw the man slumped in the front seat, Miller said, he thought he was sleeping.

Miller said the Skylark was not in the parking lot Monday when he left about 5 p.m. But it is not uncommon for people to leave their cars overnight in front of the row of four automotive businesses, he said.

Evidence was found in the car, said Warehime, who declined to be more specific.
