75 years ago: The crowd that attended the annual outing of the Melville Woolen Mills at Oakland Saturday was estimated at 5,000. The game was exciting until the eighth inning, when the Melville boys made four two-base hits in succession off pitcher Phillips, which won the game for the home team. -- Democratic Advocate, Aug. 29, 1924.
