August 10, 1999|By SPECIAL TO THE SUN

Norm Vacovsky had six birdies in a 3-under-par 69 round and edged perennial contender Dennis Winters, from Columbia Country Club, by a stroke in the pro sweeps phase of the annual Middle Atlantic PGA/Koons pro-am at Wakefield Valley Golf Club in Westminster yesterday.

The winning pro also headed a team that shared low gross.

Vacovsky, head pro at the Ritchie Golf Center in Glen Burnie, included two long-range putts in his birdie collection, but marred his card with a pair of three-putt greens, as he won for the first time since a pro-am at Caroline CC two years ago.

Sparrows Point CC members were 1-2 in amateur gross with Will Adams at 71 and Bob Przybylski at 72.

Andrew Jones, Forest Park GC, had a 62 to share low net with Jack Abell of Ocean Pines.
