Devil Rays update

The Devil Rays are three games behind the Orioles in their quest to escape the AL East basement. They're 19-16 within the division, the second-best mark among East clubs. These teams haven't met since April. The Devil Rays took two of three from the Orioles to begin the season, then swept them in a three-game series at Tropicana Field. Mussina has struggled against them in both starts, though he got the win on Opening Day after allowing four runs and eight hits in five innings. The Devil Rays jumped him for 10 runs and 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings April 21 in Tampa. Jose Canseco has three homers against the Orioles this season, but is on the disabled list. Wade Boggs got his 3,000th career hit out of the way before the Orioles arrived. Former Orioles reliever Norm Charlton is pitching to a 3.44 ERA. He and Albie Lopez had three perfect innings before Roberto Hernandez's 30th save in yesterday's 5-3 win over Cleveland. Outfielder Jose Guillen, acquired from Pittsburgh on July 23, was added to the roster yesterday.
