Florence B. Allard, 79, secretary and lay minister

Florence B. Allard, a retired secretary, died Saturday of a pulmonary embolism at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She was 79 and lived in the Campus Hills section of Towson.

Mrs. Allard served 33 years in the English department of the Baltimore County Board of Education and retired in 1994.

Born in Baltimore, the former Florence Beever was a graduate of Eastern High School.

She was a longtime member of Joppa Gospel Tabernacle Church, where she was a lay minister and taught Sunday school.

She married C. Kenneth Allard, a Realtor, in 1946. He died in 1977.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road.

She is survived by a son, retired Army Col. C. Kenneth Allard of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Evelyn Kelbel of Baltimore; and a granddaughter.

Arthur Howard Klein, 81, store owner, radio operator

Arthur Howard Klein, who had owned a retail sales company, died Saturday of heart failure at Northwest Hospital Center. He was 81 and lived in Milford Mill.

For more than 40 years, he owned the Lion Co., selling furniture, clothing and appliances. Customers paid in weekly installments.

A longtime member of Liberty Jewish Center in Pikesville, he was a founder of the Baltimore chapter of Chaverim International, an association of Jewish amateur radio operators. He was also a member of BRATS -- Baltimore Radio Amateur Television Society.

He also taught amateur radio to beginners and helped them get their licenses.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he attended the City College of New York and New York University's school of retailing.

A funeral was held yesterday.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mitzie Gold, whom he married in 1949; two sons, Steven R. Klein of Laurel and Bruce A. Klein of Finksburg; and four grandchildren.
