Volunteers Needed

Area schools and literacy programs seek volunteers to help children and adults improve reading skills and to assist in related projects.

Among them are:

George Washington Elementary School, 800 Scott St., Baltimore, for tutoring students in reading during the school day, from 8: 30 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m., beginning in September. Contact: Principal Florence Johnson, 410-396- 1445.

Anne Arundel County Literacy Council, 7310 Ritchie Highway, Suite 603, Glen Burnie, for adults to tutor other adults in reading at sites throughout the county, with hours by arrangement any day of the week. Orientation for prospective tutors is held the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Contact: Gail Wilson, 410-553- 0809.
