Learning Center barbecue

August 01, 1999|By Sloane Brown

The Baltimore Museum of Industry took on the business of a barbecue for South Baltimore Learning Center's SoBoQ-8.

The museum was dressed in red, white and blue for this year's theme of a 1940s USO swing dance. Inside, some of the 240 guests listened to and Lindied to the tunes of the New Legacy Jazz Band. Outside, others lined up for pit beef and chicken kebabs.

Among those indoors and out: Sonia Socha, SBLC executive director; Kevin Carter, event chair; Nadia Batcha, Don Huber and Betty Johnson, event committee members; Chris Rosenthal, SBLC board chair; Lori Marsalek, board member; Catherine Flynn, partner at Mead & Flynn; Sherry Welch, president of the Welch Co.; Jack Harvey, a biologist at Aberdeen Proving Ground; and Tom Lawler, Citizens National Bank VP.

The swinging shindig raised more than $20,000 for SBLC's adult-literacy programs.
