A LOCAL landmark will open its doors to the public Sunday to celebrate its centenary. The Coast Guard Yard, along the shores of Curtis Creek, will celebrate its 100th anniversary with an evening concert by the Coast Guard Band.

The concert starts at 7: 30 p.m. on the parade grounds, 2401 Hawkins Point Road. Fireworks, starting about 9: 15 p.m., will close the celebration.

Known to many locals as The Yard, the facility has employed many Baltimore City and Anne Arundel County residents since it opened in 1899.

Admission is free. Information: 410-636-7238.

The Pasadena Business Association will sponsor two events next month to allow members to mix business with pleasure.

On Thursday, the group will play host to a business mixer from 5: 30 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m. at North Arundel Hospital on Hospital Drive.

Members will meet in the hospital's new courtyard and tour the new emergency department. In case of inclement weather, the mixer will move to the hospital's third-floor Conference Center.

The cost is $5 per person. Reservations are due today.

A joint business exchange breakfast will be held from 7: 45 a.m. to 9: 30 a.m. Aug. 11 at the Holiday Inn Laurel, 3400 Fort Meade Road.

The cost is $10 per person, with reservations due Aug. 6.

Bowl-a-thon

Jenkins Memorial Church in Riviera Beach is sponsoring a bowl-a-thon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 8 at Riviera Bowl on Fort Smallwood Road to raise money for its building fund.

Bowlers must collect sponsors, and prizes will be awarded to the bowlers -- adult and child -- collecting the most pledges.

In addition to bowling there will be raffles, door prizes, a bake sale and Barney for the children.
