Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

Baltimore City

Western District

Shooting: Two police officers narrowly escaped injury yesterday when they drove into the middle of a shootout. Officers Irving Hinkson and Chris Malecki heard gunshots while patrolling by car near the 700 block of Kirby Lane shortly before 5 p.m. and went to investigate. They were caught in a cross fire between three occupants of a car and a man crouched behind a parked vehicle, said Sgt. Kenny Parks. Neither officer was hit, though at least two shots appeared to have been fired at them, Parks said. Hinkson and Malecki got out of the cruiser and drew their weapons, but fired no shots. The three in the car fled, and the man on foot obeyed the officers' orders to surrender. Clarence Leroy Thomas, 18, of the 1900 block of W. Baltimore St. was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, attempted murder of a police officer, and handgun violations. A .38-caliber pistol was recovered.

Southern District

Shooting: A man, 30, was getting out of his Ford Escort in an alley behind the 900 block of W. Lombard St. about 5: 10 p.m. yesterday when a gunman approached and demanded his money. During a struggle with the gunman, the victim was shot in the abdomen, said Detective Harvey Baublitz. The gunman escaped. Baublitz said the victim was in serious but stable condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. He said the victim, who lives in the 4600 block of Marble Hall Road in Northeast Baltimore, had about $17 in his pockets when he was found by police. It was not known if the gunman escaped with any money.

Southeastern District

Robbery: Police were seeking a man, 18, who robbed another man, 24, of his bicycle, valued at $300, Thursday in the first block of N. Highland Ave.

Central District

Stolen car: A blue 1999 Plymouth van with tags M309759 was stolen Saturday in the first block of South St.

Robbery: A man, 46, was in the 300 block of St. Paul St. about 12: 10 a.m. Saturday when a man threatened him with a razor blade and robbed him of $3 and his tennis shoes, all valued at $23.

Eastern District

Shooting: Two gunmen approached a man about 12: 30 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of E. Federal St. and one of them shot him in the left side of the head. The victim, 32, was in serious condition yesterday at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Shooting: A man, 39, who was shot in the head about 11: 30 p.m. Friday in the 2400 block of Barclay St., was in critical condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. No arrest had been made and police knew of no motive for the shooting.

Stabbing: A man, 31, was stabbed by several people during an argument about 1 a.m. Friday in a house in the 2600 block of Hoffman St. Police said the man, his girlfriend and others were arguing over money and the purchase of beer. Four blood-stained knives were recovered at the scene. The victim was in good condition yesterday at Johns Hopkins Hospital with stab wounds in the chest, lower back and left side. Police said warrants charging at least four people with attempted murder and deadly weapon charges were pending.

Robbery: A boy, 12, was riding his bicycle in the 2800 block of Greenmount Ave. about 10 p.m. Friday when two older boys struck him with their fists, kicked him and stole his bicycle, valued at more than $200.

Stolen car: Police were seeking a 1993 Dodge Caravan with tags 562979M that was stolen Saturday in the 2300 block of E. Madison St.

Assault: A man, 35, was in the 800 block of Port St. about 8 p.m. Saturday when a man known as "Mike" accused him of stealing his drugs and struck him in the head with a bottle, causing a 2-inch-long laceration. The suspect fled and the victim was treated at Church Hospital.

Robbery: A woman, 28, was walking in the 1200 block of Orleans St. near Central Avenue about 11: 45 p.m. Saturday when a man armed with a knife knocked her to the ground and robbed her of $16.

Theft from vehicle: A car battery, several cassette tapes and an electronic organizer, all valued at more than $300, were stolen Saturday night from a 1996 Mazda 626 parked in the 2300 block of Kirk Ave.

Baltimore County

White Marsh Precinct

Burglary: While the female occupant was sleeping Saturday afternoon, someone stole more than $60 from a bedroom in a house in the 5600 block of North Lane. The thief entered through a door that had been damaged during a previous burglary.

Towson Precinct

Robbery/shooting: After being given more than $150, a gunman forced the attendant at the Woodbrook Mobil service station in the 6200 block of N. Charles St. into a rear storage room about midnight Friday and shot him in the lower back. The victim, 33, was treated at an area hospital.

Burglary: While one man distracted the female occupant of a house in the first block of Greenbrier Road outside her home Friday, a second man entered the bedroom of the house and stole nearly $400, three diamond rings and three diamond necklaces, all valued at more than $7,600.

Woodlawn Precinct

Robbery: Two men assaulted a clerk at the Royal Farms store in the 5300 block of Old Court Road about 6 a.m. Saturday and removed at least $50 from a cash register. They fled on foot.

Burglary: A known male suspect was being sought after he entered a garage in the 1900 block of Featherbed Lane on Friday and stole an electric fan, grinding machine and a compact disc player, all valued at $300.

Robbery: Two men, one with a handgun, entered Dunkin' Donuts in the 8000 block of Liberty Road about 3 a.m. Friday and removed a cash register drawer that contained nearly $200. They escaped in an unknown make of car driven by a third man.
