Barbecue tips for luscious lamb

If you're tired of the same old hot dogs and burgers on the grill, try lamb. For a free guide to barbecuing the nutrient-rich meat, write to Meat New Zealand, 8000 Towers Crescent Drive, Suite 240, Vienna, Va. 22182. The booklet offers recipes and tips such as choosing chops that are at least 3/4 inch for better grilling.

Nutritious snack that's on the stick

For an easy, nutritious snack for the kids, make totally edible Pick Up Sticks. Ingredients: 12 long, thin pretzel sticks (about 4 inches long); 1/4 ripe avocado, seeded, peeled and cubed; 2 slices nonfat American cheese, cut into 1-inch squares; 1/2 red apple, cored and cubed; 12 red grapes. Directions: Using pretzel stick as skewer, thread on avocado cube, cheese square, apple cube and grape. Repeat process, making 12 sticks. Serves 4. Hint: Use a wooden skewer to poke holes in the avocado, apple and grape. From the California Avocado Information Bureau.
