Expos update

The Expos enter the second half 18 games below .500 (33-51) and are one of only five teams in either league with a less impressive record than the Orioles. Of course, the Expos have the budget to justify it. Orioles manager Ray Miller still hasn't forgotten that Expos skipper Felipe Alou dissed his club following the Expos' three-game sweep at Olympic Stadium last June. Alou downplayed the sweep by citing an uninspired opponent -- the Orioles were embarrassed by a combined 20-9 margin and have lost five of six in their all-time series with Northern Virginia's would-be franchise. Right fielder Vladimir Guerrero, 23, represented the Expos at the All-Star Game and is one of the game's most exciting young talents. His active consecutive-games streak of 230 ranks him third behind Orioles left fielder B. J. Surhoff (248) and Kansas City Royals left fielder Johnny Damon (247). The Expos have seven players on the disabled list. They haven't received a win from a starting pitcher since June 25.
