Phillies update

The Phillies are 6-3 in interleague games. More important, they are only 6 1/2 games out of the NL East lead, and only 1 1/2 behind the second-place New York Mets. Schilling and Byrd were chosen for the All-Star team along with catcher Mike Lieberthal, who is batting .314 with 18 homers and 60 RBIs. Closer Wayne Gomes has converted 12 straight save chances and hasn't blown a save since April. Opponents are hitting .182 (8-for-44) against him with men in scoring position. Bobby Abreu is batting .356 (16-for-45) with two homers and seven RBIs in his last 12 games, lifting his average to .330. The Orioles took two of three from the Phillies last season and actually have a winning record against the National League this year. In fact, in their last NL tests, Erickson held Florida to two runs June 9, Guzman shut out the Braves June 12 and Mussina completed the sweep in Atlanta in a 22-1 laugher June 13.
