Nicely administrative chief of city convention agency

The Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association named Ann Nicely director of administration. She will manage human resources and office administration for the metropolitan region tourism and conventions promotion unit. The Baltimore native is a graduate of Loyola College and was an administrator for CES Security, a convention security and staffing services firm.

Heintzelman, Selby advance at Professional Employment

Professional Employment Inc. appointed Carol Heintzelman as staffing manager and Nancy A. Selby as assistant to the president. Heintzelman, a Pikesville resident, is a former vice president of Sterling Bank and Trust and will be responsible for recruitment, interviews, staffing, inside sales and client coordination for the Owings Mills-based, high-level temporary and permanent staffing agency. Selby will serve as corporate Y2K manager and will oversee policy and procedures implementation for staffing service.

COMSAT names Ziegler VP for communications

COMSAT Corp. name Jay Ziegler vice president of corporate communications for the Bethesda-based global satellite services provider. A Washington resident, the University of California at Davis graduate was with the Executive Office of the President as assistant U.S. trade representative for public affairs and a former deputy controller for the state of California.

Collins heads equity sales at Lincoln Financial Advisors

Lincoln Financial Advisors hired John F. Collins as director of equity sales for the Lutherville financial planning firm. A graduate of Dickinson College, the Catonsville resident formerly was a broker at the headquarters of California-based Charles

Legal and insurance

Porter joins Hodes, Ulman as an associate

Hodes, Ulman, Pessin & Katz hired Robert D. Porter as an associate of the Towson law firm. A University of Baltimore law graduate and former staff member of the Law Review, Hodes was with the firm of Levin & Gann. A Catonsville resident, he is a member of the Maryland Bar Association and the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Health care

Concentra Medical Centers hires Stanwix, McDevitt

Concentra Medical Centers named Jeremy Stanwix regional therapy director and Christopher McDevitt regional sales manager of the Elkridge-based integrated managed care company.

Stanwix, a graduate of the University of South Australia, is responsible for staff coordination and development and maintenance of the firm's therapy component. The Columbia resident is an MBA candidate at Boston College. He formerly was a clinic manager at Healthsouth Braintree Hospital in Boston.

McDevitt, a resident of Richmond, Va., is an MBA candidate at Virginia Commonwealth University. He will be responsible for sales staff management, sales of all company product lines and the development of training programs for representatives.

Commercial real estate

Preston Partners appoints Weiss and Lacher

Preston Partners Inc. named Stephen C. Weiss as senior vice president and Carolyn H. Lacher as vice president for the Lutherville-based commercial real estate services firm.

Weiss, a New Hampshire College graduate, is responsible for institutional sales of commercial properties. He is a member of the Greater Baltimore Forum and is active with the South Baltimore Learning Center.

Lacher, a graduate of the University of Virginia, is responsible for permanent and venture financing.
