Cardinals: Joe McEwing is 34-for-106 (.321) during his 23-game hitting streak, the longest by a St. Louis player since Lou Brock hit in 26 straight in 1971. McEwing leads NL rookies with 29 multihit games. Outfielder Ray Lankford was scratched about an hour before the game due to tightness in his side.

Cubs: Gary Gaetti was the first position player to pitch for Chicago since Doug Dascenzo on July 2, 1991.

Diamondbacks: Arizona is 2-6 at Busch Stadium.
