Summer sophistication

Designer Lilly Pulitzer of Palm Beach is bringing back the Bermuda bag with her "Lilly bag" ($148). Revived from the '70s, this brightly colored handbag comes in two prints, the hot pink Daisy Mae (pictured) and the yellow Jitter.

With its wooden handles and pearled buttons, the Lilly bag has an air of summer sophistication. It's a refreshing departure from the street-casual look of the messenger and cargo bags that have taken over this season.

Find the Lilly bag locally at shops such as the Wilmington Country Store, 7701 Bellona Ave.

Fashionably patriotic

Old Navy stores are decked out in red, white and blue this Independence Day. While you won't find a star-spangled sun dress, if it's parade or beach clothing you're looking for, they've got you covered.

Some of our favorites are the flag T-shirt (pictured, $5 for adults, $4 for children), the beach towel (pictured, $14), the stars-and-stripes flip-flops (pictured, $4.50 a pair) and the canvas flag tote bag ($8.50-$10.50).

Tube top with a twist

The bare-back strapless V top has been spotted on some of Hollywood's hottest bods this season. For those who are a little tummy-shy but still want to reveal some skin, this adaptation of the tube top covers the stomach while showing off enough shoulder, back and hip to make up for it.

Jennifer Lopez, Keri Russell and Jennifer Aniston are just a few of the leading ladies we've seen sporting this new look. From the shiny satin version for evening to a bandanna-print style perfect for the beach or a summer barbecue, this fashion find is not reserved for the catwalk.

Seal of approval

Wet Seal is growing up. The ultrafashionable Wet Seal Company, which owns Contempo Casuals stores as well as the Blue Asphalt and Limbo Lounge clothing lines, has recently introduced a new store called Arden B to Maryland. Now at four locations (Annap- olis Mall, The Mall in Columbia, Montgomery Mall and Towson Town Center), Arden B deviates from Wet Seal's trademark youth- oriented style with a more conservative approach to womenswear.

With an eye on 20- to 40-year-olds, Arden B has everything from summer cotton tanks to businesswear. Although the stores don't specialize in eveningwear, they do carry a few items. So if you're leaving work and need a little black dress for cocktails in an hour, swing by. You'll find one that's stylish and that won't cost you an arm and a leg.
