Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.

(1841-1935)

Holmes is best remembered for being "the great dissenter" of the Supreme Court. The opinions that bestowed to him that nickname can be found in "The Dissenting Opinions of Mr. Justice Holmes," edited by Alfred Lief, "The Judicial Opinions of Oliver Wendell Holmes," edited by Harry C. Shriver, and "The Mind and Faith of Justice Holmes" by Max Lerner.

Catherine Drinker Bowen wrote a Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of him titled "Yankee from Olympus."
