Yankees update

As if the Orioles' problems couldn't get any worse, they run into a Yankees team that is starting to resemble its World Series form. After last night's victory over Detroit, the Yankees have won 10 of 12. Part of New York's recent surge stems from its three-game sweep of the Orioles last weekend at Camden Yards. The Orioles led for one-half inning while the Yankees pounded six home runs and scored 22 runs. Only 1-5 against New York this season, the Orioles are 4-14 against them the last two years, 5-18 since beating them eight straight in 1997. Center fielder Bernie Williams is on a tear, going 23-for-49 in 11 games since being moved to No. 2 in the batting order. The Orioles have outhit, outscored and outhomered the Yankees, but trail them in every significant pitching category except complete games.
