Major League Baseball: Named Carlton Fisk and Orlando Cepeda honorary captains for All-Star Game.

AL: Reduced Tigers C Brad Ausmus' suspension for "aggressive arguing" with umpire from two games to one but left $500 fine in place. Eliminated $500 fine against Tigers manager Larry Parrish but left intact his two-game suspension.

Mariners: Sent P Melvin Bunch outright to Triple-A Tacoma. Recalled P Damaso Marte from Tacoma.

Mets: Former pitching coach Bob Apodaca accepted job as roving instructor with organization's minor-league system and will continue to be paid based on three-year, $480,000 contract he signed in 1997.

Padres: Recalled P Carlos Almanzar from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Red Sox: Recalled 3B Wilton Veras from Double-A Trenton.

Albany-Colonie (Independent): Signed SS Rafael Belliard.

Basketball

Charlotte (WNBA): Waived G Christy Smith. Signed G Sonia Chase (Maryland, McDonogh).

Pennsylvania (USBL): Re-signed coach Darryl Dawkins.

College

Canisius: Assistant men's basketball coach Brian Miller resigned to accept head coach and athletic director position at D'Youville College.

DePaul: Named Sean Codey director of men's basketball operations.

Johns Hopkins: Named Chris Weidenborner volleyball coach. Named Emily Kelly assistant athletic trainer and Katie Moran and Brad Mountcastle graduate assistant athletic trainers.

Johnson & Wales, R.I.: Named Charles Crawford men's basketball coach.

La Salle: Named James Phillips men's assistant basketball coach.

Monmouth: Named former Rutgers player Geoff Billet assistant basketball coach.

Saint Louis: Freshman G Ricky Cranford will transfer to another school.

Texas Tech: Named Alvin Brooks assistant men's basketball coach.

Westminster: Football coach Gene Nicholson will miss 1999 season due to medical reasons. Sean Kelly and Scott Renninger will be interim co-head coaches.

Football

Packers: Placed WR Brian Manning, TE Rod Lewis and WR Pat Palmer on waivers.

Hockey

Coyotes: Exercised 1999-2000 options on contracts of RW Rick Tocchet, LW Greg Adams, D Brad Tiley and D Sean McCann.

Hurricanes: Signed C Kent Manderville to multi-year contract.

Senators: Acquired LW Rob Zamuner and second-round draft choice in either 2000, 2001 or 2002 from Lightning for LW Andreas Johansson to complete deal that allowed Tampa Bay to sign GM Rick Dudley. Re-signed assistant coach Perry Pearn to multi-year contract.
