Goslee is boys Junior champ

14-year-old O' Neill edges Larrimore for girls title

Jason Goslee of Salisbury and Sarah O'Neill of Potomac earned the major titles in the annual Junior Boys and Girls championships of the Maryland State Golf Association yesterday.

Goslee, 17, who will be a James M. Bennett High School senior in the fall, recorded a 2-over-par 35-3873 at Walden Golf Club in Crofton, and O'Neill, 14, posted 38-4078 at Hunt Valley Golf Club.

In leading a field of 92 starters, Goslee, who plays out of the Elks Club GC, had one birdie and one bogey on the front nine, then played the more demanding back nine in eight pars and a double-bogey.

Steve Colnitis, who plays from Hillendale CC, was the runner-up on 37-3976. In the other age groups, Stephen Krug, a 15-year-old McDonogh sophomore from Hillendale CC, led the 14-15 group with 40-3878, and Jared Goslee, 13, joined his older brother in the prize department, shooting 36-4278.

Among the 25 girls who participated, O'Neill, from Congressional CC, who had won the 10-13 title the past two years, and Christy Larrimore, from Glen Burnie and Sparrows Point CC, made it a 1-2 finish for 14-year-olds. Larrimore ended 43-3780.

Jessica Lewis of Columbia CC, the overall champion two years ago, won the 16-17 title with 40-4181, beating Carlie Gordon, from Piney Branch GC, by a stroke.

In 10-13, Stephanie Connelly of Sparrows Point shot 42-4890,and also had a onestroke margin on Maria Knoche of Baltimore.
