A 5-year-old Reservoir Hill girl who died Monday night was identified yesterday as Courtney Rivers, and Baltimore police said they are awaiting results of an autopsy.

Courtney was rushed to Maryland General Hospital about 6: 30 p.m. after her mother's boyfriend, Sam Martin, called 911. Police said Martin, who is not the child's father, told detectives he found the girl unconscious in their apartment in the 800 block of Lennox St.

Police said Courtney was pronounced dead at 7 p.m. They said she had some bruises on her body, but they could not determine how the injuries occurred or whether they contributed to her death.

Agent Angelique Cook-Hayes, a city police spokeswoman, said family members told detectives that Courtney had fallen off exercise equipment at a playground a few days ago and had been complaining of abdominal pain.

Police said the family treated Courtney with over-the-counter medicine, but police would not comment on the type. Martin and the girl's mother, Wendy Bryant, 31, could not be reached yesterday to comment.

Courtney's aunt, Laura Rivers, 31, said the playground incident occurred Saturday and that the girl had had stomachaches since. "Her mother thought it was a virus," she said.

Police said Bryant was at work when Martin called paramedics. They said the autopsy was conducted yesterday, but the results were not available.
