Getting your hat in the ring

Is it that bad a job?

So far, the Annapolis folks working so diligently to draft a candidate for Baltimore mayor are batting 0-for-2. First NAACP President Kweisi Mfume avoided the draft, and now former Police Commissioner Bishop L. Robinson has said thanks but no thanks, too.

Now the filing deadline -- Tuesday, July 6 -- is almost upon us. Surely there is someone out there willing to be drafted as a candidate that these guys can live with.

How about you?

If you are willing, and think you are able, send us a letter or e-mail of no more than 100 words describing your unique qualifications and why you would be the best candidate to be drafted. Though we make no promises, we'll pass your submissions along to the draft-a-mayor campaign.

We might also print a few. Then, who knows? Even if they don't draft you, maybe someone else will.

Send letters to: Draft Me!, c/o Features Department, Baltimore Sun, 501 N. Calvert St., Baltimore MD 21278. Send e-mail to sun.fea Include your name, address and daytime phone number. Submissions must be received by Wednesday, June 30.
