The play of gravity at Grimaldis

The laws of physics seem to be confounded in the gravity-defying assemblages of sculptor John Van Alstine, on view at C. Grimaldis Gallery through July 10.

Van Alstine works with found objects -- stone, steel, iron and wood -- which he assembles into visually mobile structures that seem to give life to normally inanimate objects. The show also includes a selection of the artist's sculptural drawings.

C. Grimaldis Gallery is at 523 N. Charles St. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 410-539-1080.
