'Star-Spangled Spectacular'

Enjoy an evening of patriotic tunes by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on Saturday at Anne Arundel Community College. Associate Conductor Daniel Hege leads the program, which features Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture as well as music from the "Star Wars" trilogy, accompanied by a fireworks display. Pre-concert festivities include music by the Crabtowne Big Band, Maryland Sings and the Annapolis Chorus. Picnic fare will be for sale. Lawn and bleacher seating will be available; blankets, chairs and your own refreshments are welcome.

The BSO concert begins at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, with the pre-concert program set to begin at 5:30 p.m., all on the college's Siegert Field, 101 College Parkway in Arnold. Free. Rain date is Sunday. Call 410-222-7949.

Train show

Watch tiny trains chug at the Great Scale Train Show this weekend at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. See the Mason-Dixon Large Scale Railroad Society's garden layout and other detailed train layouts in all scales. Fine-tune your own models with new and rare equipment, and buy model trains and related items from more than 500 tables of dealers. Demonstrations and clinics are offered for those wanting to employ more complex modeling techniques. There will also be rare train movies as well as train cartoons and films for the kids. The event is presented by the Ellicott City Scale Model Railroad Association.

The show runs 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, York Road in Timonium. $6; free for ages under 12. Maximum family charge is $12. Return Sunday free. Call 410-730-1036.
