Westminster High junior receives $2,500 scholarship

Jessica Boyd, a Westminster High School junior, has received the gold Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship.

The scholarship is presented annually to outstanding high school juniors by Discover Financial Services and the American Association of School Administrators. The award is worth $2,500.

Winners are chosen for excellence in many areas of their lives, rather than in academics alone. Students must demonstrate accomplishment in four of five areas, including special talents, leadership, obstacles overcome, unique endeavors and community service.

Fires

Westminster: Firefighters responded at 7: 16 p.m. Thursday to fires on Monroe Street. Units were out 11 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters from Westminster and Reese responded at 7: 01 p.m. Thursday to a house fire in the 900 block of Old Westminster Pike. Units were out two hours and 20 minutes.

Police

Westminster: An employee of Manchester Services on Airport Drive told police Thursday that property was stolen. The loss was estimated at $900.
