Internal Revenue Service to hold Problem Solving Day

The Internal Revenue Service will hold a Problem Solving Day for individuals with long-standing tax problems from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Valley Elementary School.

Individuals can meet with IRS employees to address their tax problems.

"We want to reach out to taxpayers who have been unable to resolve their problems," said Marie A. Medeck, acting IRS district director for Delaware, Maryland and Washington.

Appointments are encouraged; call 800-865-6198. Walk-ins will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Taxpayers should bring with them documents pertinent to their tax problems.

A taxpayer advocate is available year-round.

Call 800-829-1040 and ask for the Problem Resolution Office.

Anti-drunk-driving group elects officers for year

The Carroll County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving has elected new officers for 1999-2000.

The new officers, who will begin their term July 1, are: CJ Stiles, president; Pat Kressig, vice president; Diane Fitzgerald, treasurer; Linda Dennis, secretary; Robin Cianos, state office representative; Mike Fitzgerald, alternate state representative.

The group meets at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of the month at its offices in Suite B at 229 E. Main St., Westminster.
