A Carroll County man was arrested yesterday after leading police from three agencies on a 39-mile chase through Howard, Baltimore and Carroll counties.

Howard County police said Jeffrey Glen Cooke, 31, of the 5900 block of Northgate Lane in Eldersburg was driving a 1995 Saturn at speeds of 90 mph along Route 100 at U.S. 1 at 1: 49 a.m when he was ordered by police to pull over.

Police said Cooke continued driving, prompting officers from Howard and Baltimore counties, as well as state police and a helicopter, to give chase. His car headed north, then back into Howard County, and finally west and north again into the Eldersburg area of Carroll County along Route 97, state police said.

During the chase, Cooke's car collided with police cruisers from Howard and Baltimore counties before driving into a wooded area next to Oklahoma Road, north of the 1800 block of Liberty Road, at 2: 20 a.m.

Cooke was arrested and is being held on $10,000 bail at the Howard County Detention Center.

He has been charged with first-degree assault, traffic offenses, resisting arrest, and reckless endangerment.
