Shuttered school's alumni to OK new group's bylaws

THE DOORS to Brooklyn Park High School may have closed in 1990, but alumni are working to ensure that their school is not forgotten: An alumni association is being formed to unite former BPHS students, faculty, staff and friends of the school.

All are welcome to attend the association's meeting at 6: 30 p.m. Thursday at the Brooklyn Park library, 1 E. 11th Ave. The main business will be to finalize bylaws.

Church fashion show

A Unity in the Spirit Fashion Show and Dinner will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lloyd Keaser Center, 5757 Belle Grove Road.

BHIA meeting

Brooklyn Heights residents can learn how they can be a part of the community's resurgence by joining the Brooklyn Heights Improvement Association.

The BHIA will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Brooklyn Park library. The main business of the evening will be election of a treasurer and acceptance of nominations for a vice president.

A discussion of community concerns will be held.

Meeting canceled

The Belle Grove Improvement Association has canceled its June meeting. The next meeting will be in September. Residents with concerns or questions may call 410-636-0766.

Presentation planned

The Arundel Improvement Association will hold a final meeting before the summer break at 8 p.m. Thursday at the AIA Hall, 705 Cross St.

Ann Durant of the county Department of Development will present a slide show on home improvements and information on home-repair assistance.

A few seats remain for the bus trip to St. Michaels on June 25. The cost is $10. A boat excursion on the Miles River is $7.50.

Step class to begin

The Anne Arundel County Department of Parks and Recreation is sponsoring another session of its popular step aerobics class at Belle Grove Elementary School.

The eight-week class will meet from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning tomorrow.

Cancer walk

Harbor Hospital Center will sponsor Relay for Life on Friday at Lindale-Brooklyn Park Middle School.

The event is an overnight activity to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Participants will work in teams of eight to 15 people, walking around the school's track for 16 hours.

Team members will camp out, and food, entertainment and games will be available. Money raised will promote education and patient service programs.

Learn to relax

Ever been told to "calm down" or "chill out"? Sometimes it's easier said than done. If you feel the need to relax more, Harbor Hospital is offering a program on relaxation techniques at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Life Resource Center.
