F. Steele Langford,67, former chief federal magistrate in San Francisco and a prosecutor of Sara Jane Moore and Patricia Hearst, died Friday night after heart surgery.

He was prosecutor of Ms. Moore, who was convicted of attempting to assassinate President Gerald Ford in 1975. He also took part in the 1975 prosecution of Ms. Hearst for bank robbery. He retired in 1996.
