PGA Tour regular Bradley Hughes, who tied for second at the Kemper Open 10 days ago, and Ron Philo Jr. of Fernandina Beach, Fla., shot 9-under-par 135s yesterday to share the medal in a Woodmont Country Club sectional qualifier for the U.S. Open.

With 47 players vying for five places, the other spots went to Michael Muehr, a Nike Tour player from Great Falls, Va., who shot 136; tour regular Chris Perry, who came in from Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday night rather than try at his home course, had 137, and tour member Bobby Wadkins, who birdied the first extra hole of a playoff to advance with a 140.

Frederick native Donnie Hammond and Hooters Tour member Eric Meichtry, who got in as an alternate last week, were the other two in the playoff, with Hammond claiming first alternate with a birdie on the seventh extra hole. (Scores, 2D)
