Schaefer fund-raiser postponed because of Snoops' death

A breakfast fund-raiser scheduled for Tuesday by Maryland Comptroller William Donald Schaefer has been postponed indefinitely because of the death of his longtime companion, Hilda Mae Snoops.

Services for Mrs. Snoops will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road.

Man shot by police officer found at county hospital

A man who was shot in Baltimore Thursday by a police officer trying to stop a car with stolen license plates was found at a Baltimore County hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to his pelvis, city police said Friday.

Andre Deshawn Handy, 22, of the 800 block of N. Bentalou St. was found Thursday at Northwest Hospital Center in Randallstown, police said. He was charged with attempted murder, for allegedly trying to run down an officer, and several counts of assault.

8 arrested, suspected drugs seized in two raids

Baltimore police arrested eight suspects -- two of them juveniles -- and seized nearly $60,000 in suspected cocaine, a semi-automatic handgun, drug paraphernalia and cash during raids at two Southeast Baltimore houses late Friday and early yesterday.

Police said they believe some of the suspects arrested during the raids in the 400 block of S. Wolfe St. and 2100 block of E. Pratt St. are part of a drug organization that supplies cocaine to Southeast Baltimore.

Man's body found in river in South Baltimore

The body of an unidentified man was pulled from the Patapsco River in South Baltimore yesterday morning after it was spotted by a passer-by, city police said.

The body, which appeared to be that of a black man in his 40s, was found floating near the 2500 block of Insulator Drive about 9 a.m.
