Hoff retires as executive of bank, remains chairman

Charles W. Hoff III has announced his retirement as an executive of F&M Bancorp after a stockholders meeting at which he was re-elected chairman of both F&M Bancorp and Farmers & Mechanics National Bank.

A reception was held in honor of his retirement as Ceresville Mansion.

He began his career at F&M National Bank in 1977 as executive vice president. He was promoted to president in 1981 and chairman of the board of directors in 1993.

In 1983, when F&M Bancorp was formed, Hoff was elected chairman, president and chief executive officer of the corporation.

Union National Bank announces 5 promotions

Union National Bank in Westminster has announced promotions: Reynold Grove has been named as auditor. His responsibilities will include identification, measurement, control and monitoring of risk in all areas of the bank. He has been with the bank since 1986 and has a bachelor's degree from Lancaster Bible College.

Alan D. Bevard, Mark Blacksten and Doreen L. Capece were promoted to assistant vice president and Stephanie C. Haines to operations officer.

Bevard joined the bank in 1995. He is responsible for financial reporting, investment portfolio maintenance, budgeting and forecasting, and funds management.

Blacksten joined the bank in 1990 and has held several positions. He has a master's degree in business administration from Mount St. Mary's College.

Capece, who has been with the bank since 1975, manages its West Main Street branch. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology and attended the Maryland Bankers School at the University of Maryland.

Haines joined the bank in 1986. She directs deposit operations. Haines is a graduate of the Maryland Bankers School and is a certified internal auditor.

84 Lumber in Timonium hires manager trainee

Matthew Benjamin of Westminster has been hired by 84 Lumber as a manager trainee at the company's Timonium store.

As a trainee, he is responsible for sales, estimating and material takeoffs, performing in-store merchandising, developing a trade relations program and maintaining store appearance.

Benjamin is a 1992 graduate of Westminster High School and the son of Charles and JoAnn Benjamin of Westminster.

Farmers & Mechanics bank announces 3 appointments

Farmers & Mechanics National Bank has announced three job appointments: Louis A. Bernard has been named vice president and senior trust officer. He is a cum laude graduate of Youngstown State University, with a law degree and a master's degree in taxation from the University of Akron.

Donald F. Yetter has been named vice president and trust officer. He was with the Bank of Virginia and Citizens Bank of Maryland before joining Farmers & Mechanics. He attended the University of Maryland and is a certified financial analyst candidate.

Kevin O'Hara has been named investment officer and trust portfolio manager. He has a master's degree in business administration from Pace University.
