AMERICAN LEGION Gold Star Post 191 will hold its 53rd Memorial Day observance Monday at Pine Grove Chapel, South Main Street, Mount Airy.

The hourlong program will begin at 11 a.m. with the raising of the flag and its lowering to half-staff.

The flag ceremony will be followed by a service in the chapel consisting of prayers, patriotic songs, and an address by Douglas Henley of Post 191, a past state department commander.

After the chapel service, a floral wreath will be placed between two monuments engraved with the names of local servicemen who were killed in action.

Marines from the Old Marine Barracks in Washington have been invited to conclude the program with a 21-gun salute and the sounding of taps.

American Legion Gold Star Post 191 invites all veterans, whether Legionnaires or not, relatives of veterans, Scouts and the public to attend.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children so they might learn the meaning of Memorial Day.
