The senior right-handed pitcher struck out 27, walked only two and allowed just one earned run in three victories last week to help the Lions advance to the Class 2A state semifinals. O'Neill struck out 13 in a 1-0 eight-inning win over River Hill and struck out nine in a 5-0 win over Long Reach. In the regional final against Charles County's McDonough, which had won four straight state titles, O'Neill struck out five and hit a two-run triple to spark a 6-3 win.

South Carroll, baseball

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound pro prospect, who has a scholarship to East Carolina, struck out 16 and hit a home run Tuesday in a 7-0 victory over Thomas Johnson in the Class 3A West region semifinals. Tourangeau, a senior, hit three home runs in a 12-0 victory over Linganore in the final. It was his second three-homer game of the season and brought his home-run total for the year to eight. Tourangeau, who is 4-1 with six saves, has not given up a run in his last 16 innings.
