'The Write Stuff'

They've got "The Write Stuff" at the Walters Art Gallery. Families can participate in an ArtWard Bound activity that explores the evolution of reading and writing by examining clay tablets of ancient Assyria, Egyptian hieroglyphs, medieval manuscripts and Chinese calligraphic scrolls. Visitors can pick up "The Write Stuff" ArtPack, a booklet filled with pictures of works and a guide through the gallery's collection, then peruse selected works and sketch on paper pieces of interest. ArtPacks are available Saturday through June 19. On Saturday, June 5 and June 12, after visiting the gallery, children can stop by craft tables at the Renaissance Sculpture Court and write and illustrate their own story to take home. "The Write Stuff" is presented by the Walters and the Reading by 9 program.

"The Write Stuff" craft events take place Saturday, June 5 and June 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Walters Art Gallery, 600 N. Charles St. "The Write Stuff" ArtPack is available Saturday through June 19 for all visitors. Events are free with museum admission of $5; $3 seniors and ages 18-25; $1 ages 6-17; free for ages under 6. Call 410-547-9000, Ext. 237.
