May 25, 1999

Arson is blamed for a fire that began early Saturday in a portable toilet and spread to a nearby shed outside Mount Airy Middle School, state fire marshals said.

No one was injured, and damage was estimated at $7,000.

About 20 firefighters from Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company responded at 1: 51 a.m. to the 400 block of N. Main St. and brought the blaze under control in 30 minutes.

The fire was fueled by more than 200 gallons of duplicating fluid stored in the shed, fire marshals said.

Mount Airy: Firefighters assisted Frederick County at 8: 02 p.m. Friday on a woods fire on Old Annapolis Road near Woodville Road. Units were out an hour and 21 minutes.
