State police say three people were injured in two unrelated traffic wrecks Sunday in Carroll County in which alcohol may have been involved.
According to a state police report, the first crash occurred at Route 140 and Cranberry Road at 11: 35 a.m. when a Ford 250 pickup truck traveling west ran a red light.
The truck collided with a Chevrolet Corsica traveling east on Route 140 as it tried to turn left onto Cranberry Road.
Witnesses told police the Chevrolet driven by Franklin D. Haines, 54, of Westminster had a green signal when it began to turn.
The truck driver, Phillip P. Poore, 31, of Westminster, who was not injured, was cited for failing to obey a red traffic signal, and Haines was cited for driving while intoxicated.
Haines was treated at Carroll County General Hospital and released the same day, a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday.
His wife, Patricia, 57, was a passenger in the Corsica. She was taken by state MedEvac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she remained in fair condition, a trauma center spokeswoman said yesterday.
State police said the second accident occurred north of Eldersburg at Route 32 and Arlington Drive at 8: 50 p.m. when a Jeep Wrangler driven by James A. Henderson, 23, of Frederick left the road, struck an embankment, flipped and slammed into a tree.
Henderson was taken by state MedEvac helicopter to Shock Trauma, where he remained in fair condition, a trauma center spokeswoman said yesterday.
According to investigators, Henderson said he had been drinking before the crash. No charges have been filed, state police said yesterday.
